Reglan - Scary and Dangerous or Helpful and Needed?

Roni, how do you know that Domperidone oes not cross the blood-brain barrier so it does not have the undesirable side effects that metoclopramide may? I've been worried about Tardive dyskinesia and have been trying to wean my son off Domperidone, but his reflux has flared up badly as a result. It would be soooooo great if this does not have the same side effects as Reglan (which I thought it did). Did you see the research (pdf article on reglan) on the PAGER site? They include Domperidone in the list of drugs which cause tardive dyskinesia.

my little one was on reglan when he was only 2.5 weeks, then we stopped when he was 4.5 weeks old. didn't see any side effect or very likely, we didn't pay attention to the mentioned side effects. Then his reflux got worse and the doctor put him on reglan again. this time he was very very sleepy after taking the medication.

I was also concerned about the side effects after doing some research. I did ask my doctor about it and she told me she never saw these side effects in her patients and it's always her first choice before trying zantac. and she said zantac is NOT safe for his age(?!). Although she's very firm about it, I am not convinced. Any suggestions? should I get a second opinion from a different doctor. after reading the posts, I am really scared. He's so little and I certainly don't want to see any permanent damge to his nervous system!

BTW, my son is 8 weeks old, almost 13 pounds and the doctor put him on reglan for 4 times a day, 0.9ml each time. It seems too much to me. anyone had the same dosage?

A well known harmless side effect is tiredness. I was on Reglan for morning sickness and had to stop cause it made me so tired (sleeping up to 18 hous a day). Most drs give a PPI instead of reglan these days since it generally works better.

Very odd that your doc would try Reglan before Zantac...
Reglan made me super tired too...
