Re: Newbie! Silent Reflux, many questions! Pl help.
I hope the H2 helps.
Especially with the sleeping. If he's not sleeping well this could very well be the culprit to the weight issues. He's not a spitter, and isn't losing calories that way, and he's a good eater, I have to point the finger at sleep. Sleep problems can for SURE cause poor weight gain and weight loss, among other things.
When Eric got his tonsils and adenoids removed because of sleep apnea and eating problems, yes, his eating improved, but it was the sleep/breathing that made him more well than anything. He was supposed to lose weight after surgery because of the pain, but he did quite the opposite, even before his eating and drinking really kicked in.

Re: Newbie! Silent Reflux, many questions! Pl help.
Thanks all again! After taking Axid for 3 days, here are the effects on Ethan I notice: 1) No more drooling. (Ethan's saliva oh his bibs always has a strange/unpleasant smell) 2) He still have silent reflux as he still try to swallow alot and some bubbles sound at his throat during sleep, but Axid seems to help him with his pain/discomfort since he is no longer crying out loud or arching his back when I hold him at night. He immediately quiet down and try to go back to sleep when I hold him up. 3) He is happier during the day although he still try to swallow all the time.

Please help me out here: Axid only neutralize the acid, but it cannot stop his silent reflux. am I correct???? Can positioning at sleep help him to stop those episodes? I try to put phone book on one side of his crib or give him a pillow when I cosleep with him, still he slide down and he still have those twist and turn and try to swallow sth down, what other ways I can help him to stay put at a more upward position during sleep? He is close to 21 pounds and very active at sleep, only sleep on side and tummy, what can I do in terms of positioning? Does the Comfy lift bed that cost $400 help to reduce his silent reflux?

Please advice. Thanks in advance.

Re: Newbie! Silent Reflux, many questions! Pl help.
I am glad to hear your little one is responding to the axid!

Unfortunately, as you said, the axid will only help neutralize the acid, which then reduces the pain and discomfort of reflux. The up and down motion of reflux in the esophagus will continue and hopefully at some point your little one will outgrow it.

As for the comfy bed, hopefully other moms chime in. I always propped mine up on a pillow in the crib. I know that isn't sound advice, but it worked for us.

I have had two refluxers and they have been quite different with it. My first refluxer could tolerate regular formula but did not do well with baby food until about 8 or 9 months. My refluxer now, Kate, is six months. She loves baby food, but cannot tolerate rice or oatmeal cereal. It makes her reflux go crazy. She has also been on Nutramigen formula since about 3 weeks old. I don't suspect true milke protein allergy but the hyperallogenic formula is much easier to digest. Kate burps very easy on it, reduced her amount of gas, and she wasn't as fussy. We have tried regular formula this month and it really aggravated her reflux. It might be worth looking into or giving it a try.

Hope things continue to improve!

Re: Newbie! Silent Reflux, many questions! Pl help.
Thanks for all your reply.
He is now on Axid for almost 3 weeks. 10 days after Ethan on Axid, 3 ml a day, I switched him to Alimentum RTF. He took the formula well. . During the day he is now a happy pill, less drooling even he is teething again. At night, he is still waking up with silent reflux, not crying a lot, but want to be upright for a while. Still twist and turn when sleeping sometimes, but now he does get 3 hours peaceful sleep a night. He lost weight bet 8-9 months. Good news is the past two weeks, he gain 1 pound and few ounces more.
My question is can I still consider Axid effective ENOUGH since he is not crying, arching his back at night when he sleeps, but still have silent reflux and still wake up because of that around 2 times a night? He was 20 pounds 9 ounces at GI appt and so he got the 3 ml a day dosage. Now he is 22 pounds, should I urge GI to increase dosage? to what level? I can't find the dosage recommendation online.
