Anyone ever have your LO tested for food sensitivies w/ a naturopath? We go next week (had to be re-scheduled as Ella was sick last week). I'm hoping that I may be able to determine the foods that send Ella's reflux into a mess. In speaking w/ the naturopath, she seems quite certain that Ella's short episodes of vomiting are a reaction to something that her body isn't tolerating (she vomits for 4 hours and bounces back very quickly - she does this every few weeks or so). I suspect that I'm eating these foods that are bothering her (via breastmilk). Dairy seems highly obvious...I've now gone militant w/ avoiding it (instead of quasi avoiding).
Wondering if any of you have had luck w/ a naturopath...what about treating reflux by not only avoiding allergic foods but by also avoiding ones that the kids are sensitive to?
On a side note, Ella has had 3 reallllllly peaceful nights' sleep...only woke twice and seems to be in a deeper state of sleep....I've avoided all dairy and chocolate (*curses* to Halloween)!
I know Rachel (scarlet) has done it. I was going to try it, but never got around to it. It sounds kind of crazy, but from what I have heard it is pretty accurate.
Good luck, I hope it will give you a better idea of what is up with Ella.

I against it, but only because of the horror stories my DH told me when he had to shadow one in Med School.

She finished physio for her torticollis a month or so ago. She really has no lean anymore and when I do her stretches, I feel no resistence (it was on her left side). My nephew has it too but not as severe. Are you going to try a Naturopath too for Emma? I have heard so many positive stories from people who have taken their kids.

Yes, it was really interesting too. The naturopath detected foods that we know Ella reacts to (bananas and oats) and identified the ones that we suspected that she may be sensitive to. Looking back on the foods that I've been eating, I've realized that I've been consuming quite a bit of things that she's sensitive to. I can also determine that those vomiting episodes always followed a day of my eating loads of the highly sensitive foods - she gets lots of troublesome foods via my breastmilk. The naturopath determines everything from asparagus to nitrates. We are now avoiding the "red zones" and "yellow zones" as I call them - highly and moderately sensitive foods. Cows milk, yeast, tomatoes, bananas, etc...Ella and I are on a different food path now. We are meeting w/ a pediatric nutritionist this week to set up a menu for Ella (that way I can help her eat well while avoiding the troublesome foods). This nutritionist is awesome and will use the list from the naturopath to create menus and give me recipes. Quite helpful when I am a bit unsure. There are loads of stuff that Ella can eat (fruits, veg, meats, some dairy, gluten etc) so we have some room to play. The nutritionist and the naturopath are all about helping to heal the body w/ proper foods.
I would recommend it for people who are baffled w/ their kids reactions to foods. This week we also had a formal allergy test - she reacted to nothing! This being said, the doctor said that while Ella wasn't allergic to foods and needed an epipen or anything, that she was probably sensitive to foods. Duh...she has reflux after all! LOL
The naturopath can also test anything (food or otherwise) that you worry about. We brought in some bath/cream products that we started using on Ella. She seemed to wake up more and was rubbing her eyes during the night (after the evening bath). We stopped using it (the naturopath said it was a "no go" - she didn't know I worried about it) and Ella slept six hours straight that 1st night.
When food is a mystery, it may be worth a try for some LOs. At this point, I'll try anything. I know food bothers her, now I have a bit of direction to head in now - KWIM?
