Your older kiddo(s) and ages: Sam -- 2 years 10 months
When was reflux diagnosed? informally at 4 months, but only properly medicated by 9 months
How are their symptoms different now from when they were younger? Sam went through a dreadful vomiting year or so from 10 months on; now his reflux is mostly silent - burps, gulps, etc. He used to cry a LOT as a poor unmedicated reflux baby (he would have cried non-stop if left to his own devices) but now he's much better. His sleep, especially day naps, were also affected when he was younger, but he's sleeping fine now. His main consistent symptom is food aversion, which has slightly improved but not gone away.
How do you think reflux has MOST affected your child(ren)? Definitely the food aversion. From birth he didn't want to feed, and he would still rather not eat at all. VERY dysfunctional relationship with food, especially food with any texture whatsoever... BUT his drinking aversion has improved a bit!
Do you foresee your child "outgrowing" reflux? I'm still hopeful. His symptoms have become less severe, and he's slooowly overcoming some of his food issues, so I want to hope that he might.
What meds is your kiddo currently taking? If no meds, how are you managing their reflux (diet, positioning, etc)? 20mg Nexium twice daily

I LOVE MY BOY!
pH study in Aug 2007 showed reflux
Barium swallow in Jan 2008 came back normal
Gastroscopy in Jan 2008 showed oesophagitis
Meds change from 30mg Losec to 40mg Nexium in Jan 2008
pH study in June 2008 showed reflux, but that the meds were keeping the acid under control
(Sam's drinking formula much better. He is now putting tiny bits of some table food in his mouth and swallowing them!!! The bulk of his nutrition still comes from foods of pureé consistency, though.)
Mary, off topic here, but from where in SA are you? I just met a friend here in SoCal who was born in Johannesburg..she is very sweet...

Hi Eva
I'm from Cape Town (or at least about 50km away, Stellenbosch and Paarl, where all the SA wine comes from), so pretty far from JHB. A lovely part of the world to live in - vineyards, mountains and beaches all in close proximity!

LOL, Rachel! I think we just posted the exact same answer on most of the questions! These kids, what are we going to do with them????
LOL Lori, I was amazed that most of the answers of older ones are similar! Weird huh? Just shows you that eventually you sleep and the child eventually eats (with any luck!).

Jack who? Follow the adventures of Jack O, our IRD Mascot here:
How are their symptoms different now from when they were younger? She is well controlled on meds. I only see symptoms (hicupps, wet burps, poor sleeping, grouchy behavior) when he is off his meds
How do you think reflux has MOST affected your child(ren)? It is hard to say since he has always had it, I don't know how he would be without it. His reflux and food allergies are a big part of his life and something that he has to think about more then a 3 1/2 year old should
Do you foresee your child "outgrowing" reflux? I think he will always have it to some degree. I hope we will be able to get to a point where he does not need meds every day, but I don't know.
What meds is your kiddo currently taking? If no meds, how are you managing their reflux (diet, positioning, etc)? 3 1/2 mil of Axid tiwce a day.

Prevacid 30mg a day Benefiber 3-4 teaspoons daily(previously been on Zantac, Reglan, Axid and Mirlax)
Emma Catharine 3/24/07*
Silent Reflux outgrown at 15 months!! MSPI, Outgrown at 1 year!!
Allergic to dogs, dust and mold
low IgA and IgG
When was reflux diagnosed? Misdiagnosed around 4 weeks as reflux to turn around and actually have reflux around 10 weeks
How are their symptoms different now from when they were younger? She doesn't puke much anymore. Birth to 1 yr she ate but not much then stopped altogether when I stopped formula. Now she's back to eating again.
How do you think reflux has MOST affected your child(ren)? She's just now realizing she's different. That her friends don't take medicine and that if the cat pukes she doesn't need prevacid too. She gets frustrated that she can't have juice etc like everyone else. Other than that, it's all she knows.
Do you foresee your child "outgrowing" reflux? HAHAHA that's funny
What meds is your kiddo currently taking? If no meds, how are you managing their reflux (diet, positioning, etc)? 45mg Prevacid
